A judge ruled Monday that prosecutors can move forward with criminal charges against a former Canton animal control officer who is accused of shooting and dumping more than 100 dogs into a creek.Alonzo Esco was not present Monday for a probable cause hearing held in a Madison County courtroom. The proceedings took only five minutes. A judge ruled Esco was not entitled to a probable cause hearing because he wasn't acting as a police officer when he allegedly shot and killed dogs and cats and dumped their bodies.
