Kentucky town outraged after stray dog shot by animal control - 14 News, The Tri-State's News and Weather Leader-

WHITLEY COUNTY, KY (NBC) - Some neighbors in one Kentucky community are outraged.

They say an animal control officer killed a friendly dog.

A big, white stray dog recently showed up at a small office complex in Whitley County. Breanna Rhoades told WLEX-TV that the dog called Bugsy - the name on his collar - had come to the Whitley Pharmacy several times but she and other employees weren't able to secure him.

She says the dog was too scared and timid to get close to them. When he took shelter from rain near a dumpster, workers called animal control, hoping the officer would take the stray dog and help find a home for it.

Animal control arrived, along with a police officer, and cornered the dog near a trash dumpster.

That's when some of the workers realized animal control was about to shoot the animal and tried to intervene. Offers to adopt the dog and pay a city fine were ignored and the dog was killed.
