Family Files Lawsuit After Police Shoot Family Dog

A family in Commerce City has filed a federal lawsuit after police shot and killed their dog.

The shooting happened in February outside a home on Rosemary Street.

The Agazio family told CBS4 they were devastated at losing Zoey, the pet, for what they believe was absolutely no good reason. They said they aren't looking for money but instead hope that in taking the case to court they might stop the same thing from happening to someone else.

"It was like seeing something that you would never expect," said Maria Agazio, 13.

The tears still come when Maria recalls watching the Commerce City police officer kill Zoey with a single shot in the family's front yard.
